BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Stratolaunch, company speacializing in hypersonic testing capabilities, has announced a feasibility study contract with the Missile Defense Agency (MDA). Officials claim that the company plans to examine and assess the applicability of a re-usable hypersonic testbed system for Missile Defense Systems (MDS) applications.

EUROPE. The Leonardo Compact Jamming System (CJS) integrated in Terma’s ECIPS-pylon underwent a series of flight tests with the two companies in early October of 2021. Officials claim that both companies are now ready to provide the integrated solution to potential customers.

ANNAPOLIS, Md. Annapolis Micro Systems’ announced that its WILDSTAR 100GbE 3E10 3U OpenVPX Switch was named a Top-5 winner at U.S. Army’s xTech CMOSS Plugfest competition held November 8-19 at the Open Innovation Laboratory (OIL), Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland.

MELBOURNE, Fla. L3Harris Technologies completed the final major design milestone on the U.S. Missile Defense Agency’s (MDA) Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) program Phase IIb On-orbit Prototype Demonstration and has begun building the demonstration satellite.

SWEDEN. Saab has signed a contract for multi-role Sea Giraffe AMB naval radars antenna kits, for the upgrade of the Royal Canadian Navy’s Halifax Class frigates. The contract also includes associated equipment and spare parts.

PITTSBURGH, Pa. VISIMO, with Research Institute partner Colorado State University, has won an Air Force Phase II Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) award to develop a generator capable of quickly creating synthetic, annotated image datasets.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. The Northrop Grumman Corporation and Ball Aerospace team announced the achievement of three milestones on production of its Next Generation Overhead Persistent Infrared (Next Gen OPIR) Geosynchronous Earth Orbit (GEO) Engineering Development Unit (EDU) payload.

MANAMA, Bahrain. Amphibious transport dock ship USS Portland (LPD 27) conducted a high-energy laser weapon system demonstration, Dec. 14, while sailing in the Gulf of Aden, according to an announcement by the U.S. Navy.

NASHUA, N.H. BAE Systems received a $493 million contract modification from Lockheed Martin to upgrade and modernize the electronic warfare (EW) system for the F-35 Lightning II. The system is designed to enable the fifth-generation fighter to detect and address electromagnetic threats.
 

EUROPE. Airbus and OneWeb have signed a distribution partner agreement to provide low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite communication (SATCOM) services for military and governmental use.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. Northrop Grumman Corporation has won a contract from the U.S. Army in support of U.S. European Command (EUCOM) to provide Forward Area Air Defense Command and Control (FAAD C2) to Estonia, Lithuania, and Latvia.

HOUSTON, Texas. KBR has won eight prime contracts as a part of the General Services Administration (GSA) ASTRO multiple award, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, which encompasses services related to manned, unmanned, and optionally manned systems, robotics, and platforms.

MONTEREY, Calif. Researchers at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) are currently researching ways to reduce atmosphere-induced aberrations with the intent to provide high-energy laser weapon systems with a chance to reach a target farther away in a deep turbulence environment.

UNITED KINGDOM. Developed under the joint Maritime Mine Counter Measures (MMCM) program between the U.K. and France, the remotely-operated boat, controlled from either a ship or land, tows a highly sensitive detection device to combat sea mines and keep ships and personnel away from danger.

TORRANCE, Calif. Intellisense Systems, Inc., a provider of avionics and multi-function display systems, has introduced the Smart Video Display Terminal 6x8 (SVDT–0608). According to the company, this display integrates a single-board computer, graphics capabilities, I/O, and avionics interfaces.

MUNICH. Co-founder of Spotify Daniel Ek has invested over $133 million into a Germany-based artificial intelligence (AI) startup called Helsing for the development of battlefield AI, according to a press release authored by YPOG, the advising legal team for the latest round of funding.
