PRODUCT OF THE WEEK: Annapolis MicroSystems 3U VPX switches and chassis - Story
July 15, 2024This week’s solution, the Annapolis Microsystems WILDSTAR 3U OpenVPX switch (WP3E20) and WILD100 13-Slot 3U OpenVPX chassis (WC31DH), are commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) products that integrate the high-density VITA 91 connectors, which double the available backplane density. The new VITA 91 high-density connector enables a completely switched backplane, so the expansion plane is no longer defined by a fixed backplane PCB but is fully reconfigurable.

May 20, 2024It’s been nearly three years since ratification of the Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) Technical Standard 1.0 and its impact is being felt across the services as requests for SOSA aligned products are finding their way into program requirements. SOSA, an example of the modular open systems approach (MOSA) mandated by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), is also changing the way government leverages commercial technology and existing open standards like VPX. To learn more, I gathered a roundtable of SOSA Consortium members to discuss SOSA’s impact on the community, business practices, common misconceptions, and the future of what SOSA may look like five or 10 years down the road.

December 05, 2023This week’s product, the Annapolis MicroSystems WILDSTAR 100GbE 3E20 Switch, a rugged 3U board that provides switching between backplane slots of multiple channels of 100Gb Ethernet and features high density VITA 91 backplane connectors that double the available density to as many as 128 different pairs of Ethernet, delivering increases in bandwidth and reductions in latency.
