Military helicopter avionics upgrades like those for Future Vertical Lift platforms make data and modular-agnostic hardware a priority for defense electronics manufacturers. As systems and electronics evolve, many of these advances will have to comply with open architecture standards like the Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) and must leverage a modular open systems approach (MOSA) to ease cost and time-to-market pressure.

WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. A February demonstration marked the first time the U.S. Navy used an all-electric, high-energy laser weapon to defeat a target representing a subsonic cruise missile in flight. The ground-based laser system identified the red drone flying by and shot a high-energy beam invisible to the naked eye. 

AUSTRALIA. Northrop Grumman Australia has entered into an agreement with Australian electronics engineering company IntelliDesign for hardware design services and contract manufacturing of Secure Communications Solution (SCS) devices.

CAMBRIDGE, England. Blighter Surveillance Systems, designer and manufacturer of electronic-scanning radars and surveillance solutions, announced the launch of the A422 Deployable Radar System.

FORT WORTH, Texas. Elbit Systems of America has partnered with Physical Sciences Inc. and Stanford University to produce a next-generation night vision system for the U.S. military, offering more capability in a smaller and lighter package.

BERWYN, Pa. Triumph Group announced that it won a multi-year contract from Raytheon Intelligence & Space, a Raytheon Technologies business, to deliver air inlet and exhaust electro-mechanical door actuators and an advanced electronic control system for the Next Generation Jammer Mid-Band (NGJ-MB) pod. 

AUSTIN, Texas. SparkCognition Government Systems (SGS), company specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) solutions for defense and national security, announced it has been awarded to the Data Readiness Artificial Intelligence Development (DRAID) Program through the Joint Artificial Intelligence Center (JAIC).

WASHINGTON. An agreement between NASA and the U.S. Space Force recently authorized the public release of decades of data collected by U.S. government sensors on fireball events, or large bright meteors also known as bolides, for the benefit of the scientific and planetary defense communities.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. BAE Systems announced that the company will be developing the mission data framework for Space Systems Command’s Enterprise Management and Control (EM&C) system.

MELBOURNE, Fla. L3Harris Technologies has won $117 million for option-year three of a U.S. Space Force and U.S. Space Command contract to continue maintaining and modernizing infrastructure to track objects in space.

POWAY, Calif. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA-ASI) has introduced the Eagle Eye radar. The new multi-mode radar (MMR) is installed and has flown on a U.S. Army-operated Gray Eagle Extended Range (GE-ER) unmanned aerial system (UAS). 

PALMDALE, Calif. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), Air Force Research Lab (AFRL), Lockheed Martin, and Aerojet Rocketdyne team have flight tested the Hypersonic Air-breathing Weapon Concept (HAWC).

SAN DIEGO, Calif. and DALLAS, Texas. Northrop Grumman Corporation and AT&T have entered into a collaboration agreement to research and develop a digital battle network, powered by AT&T 5G and Northrop Grumman's advanced mission systems, to support the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).  

ROME, Italy. Rheinmetall has unveiled the Oerlikon AMMR, the company's latest radar system. The Oerlikon AESA Multi-Mission Radar (AMMR) was developed at Rheinmetall Italia in Rome. Officials claim that the new radar is now ready for series production.

CHICAGO, Ill. Boeing has demonstrated the integration of its Protected Tactical Enterprise Service (PTES) software elements with an industry partner’s user terminal, proving technical maturity on the U.S. Space Force’s pathfinder program.
