Sagetech Avionics, an aerospace technology company specializing in situational awareness solutions for Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), announced that the Department of Defense (DoD) AIMS Program Office issued the world's first 17-1000 Mark XIIB certification to Sagetech for its MX12B micro Mode 5 Identify Friend or Foe (IFF) transponder.

OSLO, Norway. OnTime Networks, company specializing in rugged, Ethernet solutions for the aerospace and defense industry, announced the selection of its Ultra-Rugged Airborne CR-6228 28-Port GbE/10GbE Switch and Router by Airbus for the A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft.

HAIFA, Israel. Elbit Systems Ltd. announced that it won an approximately $82 million contract from BAE Systems Hägglunds AB (BAE Systems Hägglunds) to supply the Royal Netherlands Army (RNLA) with Active Protection Systems (APS) and electro-optical commander sights. The contract will be performed over a period of four and a half years.

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. Abaco Systems announced a multi-million-dollar design win for sixty units of the VP430 radio frequency system-on-chip RFSoC, direct RF processing system, which will be used on a counter fire target acquisition radar upgrade. The counter fire sensor is intended to increase the ability to respond to newly identified threats and changing missions to enable more efficient counter measures.

Threats facing the U.S. military are evolving fast – hypersonically fast. At speeds of MACH 5 and greater, hypersonic weapons are becoming increasingly challenging to detect, deter, and destroy. Military-technology manufacturers, however, are refusing to let these light-speed advancements become the Achilles heel for the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). The methods through which companies in the hypersonic sector plan to ensure domestic confidence in this arena are said to be dependent on innovations like early detection, robust sensor systems, and a better understanding of what exactly makes a hypersonic weapon so lethal.

MELBOURNE, Fla. L3Harris Technologies has won a $121 million U.S. Missile Defense Agency contract to build space flight hardware to demonstrate the company’s solution for the Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS) program.

GERMANY. Sensor specialist HENSOLDT announced it will modernize the artillery location radar COBRA which is in service with several NATO armies. Under a contract awarded by the multinational procurement organization Organization for Joint Armament Co-operation, HENSOLDT will aim to replace the Radar Target Generator (RTG), a core element for the test environment of COBRA.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. Northrop Grumman Corporation and U.K.-based Ultra equipped a modified, manned Bell 407 (acting as an MQ-8C Fire Scout surrogate) platform with Ultra sonobuoys, receiver, and processor to complete an unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) anti-submarine warfare (ASW) capability demonstration.

CARSLBAD, Calif. ViaSat Inc., a communications company, transmitted high performance cloud- and artificial intelligence (AI)-based data in a variety of tactical communication scenarios during the U.S. Army's Cyber Quest 2020 exercise—a collaborative, live event where military, commercial, and defense industry, worked alongside academia and government to examine how electronic warfare, cyber, networking, and communications capabilities could aid global military forces.

SOUTH AFRICA. HENSOLDT South Africa announced that it has launched its new radar business after acquiring the Air Traffic Management (ATM) and Defense & Security business units of Tellumat at the end of 2020. Together, with the company’s existing radar and other capabilities, these business lines are integrated to form the Radar Business Unit of HENSOLDT South Africa.

RESTON, Va. General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics, announced the availability of Amazon Web Services (AWS) through the milCloud 2.0 contract, providing Department of Defense (DoD) mission partners access to an expanded portfolio of secure cloud services. 

FALLS CHURCH, Va. The U.S. Air Force has selected Northrop Grumman Corporation as one of multiple companies competing for task orders under the five year Software Development Security Operations (DevSecOps) Basic Ordering Agreement (BOA) contract.

ARLINGTON, Va. BAE Systems’ FAST Labs research and development organization has been tapped by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) to develop a scalable machine learning system designed to provide data anonymity to improve data sharing. The program, called Cooperative Secure Learning (CSL), has potential cybersecurity applications.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. Citadel Defense has received a multi-million-dollar government contract for their Titan, an AI-powered, radiofrequency (RF) based counter drone system. 

GERMANY. Germany’s Federal Office for Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has awarded a consortium, or ARGE, consisting of MBDA Deutschland GmbH and Rheinmetall Waffe Munition GmbH a contract to fabricate, integrate, and support testing of a laser weapon demonstrator in the maritime environment.

FRANCE. Thales has won its third delivery order from the U.S. Army to provide the AN/PRC-148D Improved Multiband Inter/Intra Team Radio (IMBITR). Under the Army Leader Radio program and in support of Capability Set fielding’s into the Integrated Tactical Network (ITN), this latest award brings total IMBITR radio orders to more than 6,000.
