The U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) has placed a $36 million order with Harris Corporations for Falcon III wideband AN/PRC-117G manpack and Falcon III AN/ORC152A handheld radios. The order will accelerate the deployment of advanced wideband tactical communications systems, and provide Special Operations Forces with wireless broadband capabilities in battlefield conditions.

Harris Corporation has released a backpack version of its KnightHawk tactical cellular network solution, KnightLite, allowing connectivity and smart apps to warfighters at the tactical edge. The mobile cellular networking technology runs on the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), and works in conjunction with primary radio communications to provide high-bandwidth information exchange in areas with minimal-to-no communications infrastructure.

The first Non-Developmental Item (NDI) to receive JTRS certification on the SRW waveform, the multiband AN/PRC-117G operating SRW v1.01.1 has met the open standards, interoperability, and security requirements of tactical DoD networks. Proven compliant with Joint Program Executive Office (JPEO) JTRS standards, the Harris wideband tactical radio system ensures the security risk reduction and interoperability of JTRS waveforms on Software Defined Radios (SDRs).
