Data in the modern battlefield has become as essential as munitions. Detection, target tracking, and the decisions that must be made ? based on data acquired from sensors and cameras mounted to Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) or a myriad of radar and sonar devices on a cruiser ? all require sophisticated algorithms executing on powerful computing equipment. Traditional methods of Digital Signal Processing (DSP) have used specialized FPGA equipment, multiprocessor VME, and OpenVPX solutions, but a new class of computing has the potential to replace some of those expensive and highly specialized processing elements.

Emerson's majority interest in its embedded computing & power business sold to Platinum Equity - News

CARLSBAD, CA. Officials at Emerson announced that they have signed an agreement to sell a 51 percent stake in the company's embedded computing and power business to Platinum Equity in Los Angeles. Under the deal, Emerson will get about $300 million in cash and will keep a 49 percent non-controlling interest in the business, which will then operate as an independent company.

SAN JOSE, Calif. Emerson Network Power engineers released a new VME/VXS single-board computer (SBC) at the DesignWest show in San Jose, Calif., this week. The MVME8100 device has a Freescale P5020 QorIQ processor and is targeted radar, sonar, and other C4ISR applications.

Engineers at Emerson Network Power had some fun at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany this week when they ran a demo that leveraged facial recognition-like software with Intel processors and Lego toy boxes to create a 3D image of the toy inside the box.
