LONDON. High-performance embedded computing provider DFI will be making its initial appearance at the upcoming Defense and Security Equipment International (DSEI) exhibition in London, which will run from September 12-15. 

KIELCE, Poland. Poland's minister of national defense approved a Letter of Acceptance with the U.S. Army to expand its WISŁA medium-range air and missile defense capabilities with the introduction of 12 Lower-Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensors (LTAMDS) plus 48 Patriot launchers, making the Foreign Military Sale the first international customer to add the advanced 360-degree LTAMDS radar built by Raytheon (an RTX business) to its air and missile defense architecture.

FirePoint Innovations – a partnership between Wichita State University (WSU) and the U.S. Army’s Combat Capabilities Development Command, Aviation and Missile Center (DEVCOM, AvMC) – recently cut the ribbon on its Applied Innovation Center (AIC) in Huntsville, Alabama. ENDICOTT, N.Y. BAE Systems reports that its new vehicle-management computer (VMC) has been successfully flight-tested on the F-35 Lightning II stealth combat aircraft, with the trial demonstrating a technology upgrade for all three F-35 variants that is aimed at boosting computer performance and addressing obsolescence issues.

WOBURN, Mass. and COLCHESTER, U.K. Embedded-computing company Concurrent Technologies announced its acquisition of rugged-computing company Phillips Aerospace, in a deal valued at approximately $3.38 million.

Embedded solution provider Microchip Technology reports that the U.K. government’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has "successfully reviewed" the security of its communications, industrial, aerospace, defense, nuclear, and other systems that rely on Microchip Technology’s PolarFire FPGAs [field-programmable gate arrays].

ASHBURN, Va. Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions introduced the CHAMP-XD4 (VPX6-485) and the CHAMP-FX7 engines, among the initial members of the company's new Fabric100 class of SOSA aligned system elements, for use in compute-intensive defense, aerospace, and industrial applications.

HELSINKI, Finland. Virtual-reality hardware/software provider Varjo won a contract to provide head-mounted display (HMD) technology for the U.S. Army’s Reconfigurable Virtual Collective Trainer (RVCT) Air Program.

TUCSON, Ariz. Ultrashort pulse laser technology company Applied Energetics won a contract from the U.S. Navy Office of Naval Research (ONR) to develop a high-peak/high-average power ultra-short pulse (USP) optical system.

Abaco Systems (a business unit of AMETEK) introduced the SBC3513, a Sensor Open Systems Architecture (SOSA) aligned single-board computer (SBC) that features the Intel Xeon W processor -- formerly known as Tiger Lake H -- with eight cores operating at 2.6GHz, 64 Gbytes of DDR4 RAM, and as much as 480 Gbytes of nVME SSD.

Designed with a 100GbE data plane, 25GbE control plane, and PCIe Gen4 to the backplane, the rugged, commercial-off-the-shelf SBC3513 is well suited for demanding command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, reconnaissance (C4ISR) and industrial applications.

ARLINGTON, Va. Uncrewed aerial and ground systems company AeroVironment plans to acquire Tomahawk Robotics (Melbourne, Florida), a company that creates artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled robotic control systems for use on and off the battlefield. 

ARLINGTON, Va. Mission-critical RF technology company CAES reports that it won a $200 million follow-on, full-rate hardware production and sustainment award from Raytheon, an RTX business.

LONDON. U.K.-based defense technology company BAE Systems announced that it plans to acquire Ball Aerospace (Westminster, Colorado) for $5.5 billion.

CHICAGO. The global artificial intelligence (AI) market, which totaled $150.2 billion in 2023, is predicted to grow to $1.35 trillion by 2030, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 36.8% during the forecast period, according to a new report by MarketsandMarkets, "Artificial Intelligence Market." 

LOWELL, Mass. The University of Massachusetts at Lowell (UMass Lowell) recently received nearly $5.5 million from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the Innovation Institute at the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative to develop a new hub at the university that offers a one-stop support system for researchers and businesses seeking to design, build, and test small satellites and spacecraft components.

SEATTLE. Software-integration startup Integrate won a $1.25 million contract from the U.S. Space Force to improve the Space Force's program-management software platform.
