HUNTSVILLE, Alabama. Lockheed Martin won a contract from the U.S. Army to enhance the capabilities of the ground-based Long Range Hypersonic Weapon (LRHW) system, the company announced in a statement.
Lockheed Martin will supply additional LRHW battery equipment, provide systems and software engineering support, and offer logistical solutions as part of the contract. The enhancements are intended to bolster the Army's hypersonic strike capabilities with ultrafast and maneuverable long-range missiles that can be launched from ground mobile platforms, the statement reads.
The LRHW system, which utilizes the common hypersonic All Up Round (AUR) provided by the U.S. Navy's Conventional Prompt Strike (CPS) program, includes an Army canister, a battery operations center, and transporter erector launchers. This expansion will support the production of additional batteries and sustain the existing systems currently deployed with U.S. soldiers, the company says.
