HARLOW, England. Raytheon UK and Thales UK engineers conducted over-the-air Mode 5 Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) interoperability tests at Raytheon's Matching Green test range. The trials used the Thales TSA1412 Interrogator and Raytheon UK's IFF4810 Transponder, which also is the standard fit SIFF (Successor IFF) product, that features the Mode 5-enabled upgrade.

The Mode 5 system boasts enhanced cyber security to help counter exploitation and deception while delivering resistance to Electronic Counter Measures (ECM). The interrogator and transponder were fitted with Raytheon US KIV-77 Mode 5 Cryptocomputers.

The IFF system is an electronic 'question and answer' system that is fitted to aircraft, missile air defence systems, and ships enabling them to discriminate between friendly and hostile forces. Both the Mode 5 IFF Interrogator and Transponder subsystems utilize a common US-sourced KIV-77 Mode 4/5 cryptographic computer, which is manufactured and deployed to the U.S. military by Raytheon Advanced Communications and Countermeasures (ACC) engineers in Aberdeen, MD.
