Missile agency's Long Range Discrimination Radar delivers first panel

MOORESTOWN, N.J. The Missile Defense Agency's (MDA) Long Range Discrimination Radar (LRDR) program delivered its first radar panel to the MDA's site in Clear, Alaska, plus placement of the final beam on the radar shelter, as the program continues to work toward full delivery in 2020.
According to the maker of LRDR, Lockheed Martin, the radar combines solid-state radar (SSR) technologies with known ballistic missile defense algorithms, all based upon an open architecture platform capable of meeting future growth.
"Solid-state radar is the cornerstone of our current and future radar development," said Dr. Rob Smith, vice president and general manager of Radar and Sensors Systems at Lockheed Martin.
The recently delivered panel is just one of 20 set to be shipped to the MDA Alaska site during the rest of 2019; installation and integration of the radar system is slated to begin by the end of 2019, followed by a testing period.
