International Space Station's 3D printer makes first part in space - News

NASA officials announced that the crew in the he International Space Station put to use their 3D printer and produced the first 3D printed object in space -- a printhead faceplate for the printer. NASA officials see 3D printing of tools and parts as a way to reduce reliance on resupply missions from Earth.

WASHINGTON. The NASA Uninhabited Aerial Vehicle Synthetic Aperture Radar (UAVSAR) is concluding a month-long scientific mission over the Americas this week, studying questions that range from the dynamics of Earth’s crust to the carbon cycle. The imaging system departed from the Dryden Aircraft Operations Facility in Palmdale, CA, on March 7 aboard a NASA C-20A piloted aircraft, and has conducted research studies over Arizona, the U.S. Gulf Coast, and Central and South America. The NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in Pasadena, CA built and manages the UAVSAR.

New NASA Mars rover mission in 2020 despite budget cuts - News

WASHINGTON. A new Mars rover will be launched in 2020, officials at NASA announced on Tuesday at the American Geophysical Union. The unmanned vehicle’s landing system and chassis will be based heavily off of the Curiosity rover, allowing the agency to save roughly $1 billion in design expenses off of the current rover’s $2.5 billion price tag.
