HOUSTON. NASA selected Lockheed Martin selected NASA for Johnson Space Center development and operations that support human spaceflight under a $166.8 million contract option.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin engineers provide support for the software, hardware, data and display systems that are used to train for and execute all human spaceflight missions that are supported by the NASA Mission Operations Directorate. The contract also provides systems services support inside the Christopher C. Kraft Jr. Mission Control Center, the Jake Garn Mission Simulator and Training Facility, as well as at various backup control centers.

Lockheed Martin engineers are currently working with NASA officials to modernize the Mission Control Center, software applications, and training facilities for the next generation of human spaceflight such as commercial space services and future exploration programs. This update will reduce maintenance and operations costs with completion expected in 2014.
