Ruggedized, small-form-factor WAN modules from PacStar chosen to upgrade U.S. Marine Corps data networks

ASHBURN, Va. PacStar, a division of Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions, has won a $25 million contract to upgrade a portion of the U.S. Marine Corps Combat Data Network (CDN) that the company says will enable the Marine Corps to extend the benefits of advanced network communications to tactical environments.
PacStar is tasked with upgrading a piece of the CDN, which provides an integrated tactical data network and consists of an assortment of networking equipment integrated into tactical transit cases. According to information from the company, PacStar's ruggedized, small-form-factor solution -- including routing, switching, advanced network services, and more that address crucial size, weight, and power (SWaP) concerns -- answers the Marines' need to operate in small, agile units and to rapidly and reliably communicate in environments with limited communications equipment.
A company statement says that with this agreement, the Marine Corps will upgrade end-of-life legacy 19-inch rack-mounted routers, switches, and servers to PacStar small-form-factor modules, tthreby reducing SWaP, improving mobility, and enhancing speed of deployment while improving transmission rates and data access.
