Samsung devices approved for use within DoD, USAF

RIDGEFIELD PARK, N.J. U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) officials added Samsung Electronics America, Inc's Galaxy S9, S8 and Note8 on Android 8.0 Oreo to the Approved Products List (APL). At the heels of this announcement, U.S Air Force (USAF) officials also approved Samsung's Galaxy series smartphones and select handheld computing devices for use in the service.
Under the U.S. Air Force agreement, officials can now purchase Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets through its cellular Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) from major telecommunications carriers. Samsung’s smartphones and tablets are based on the Android operating system and are supported by Samsung’s defense-grade Knox security platform.
Samsung’s latest S9 smartphone - equipped with Band-14 for public safety - is now on the Department of Defense Information Network Approved Products List (DODIN APL), and Samsung is working to have this device added to the Air Force BPA.
With the DoD agreement, Galaxy S9, S8 and Note8 on Android 8.0 Oreo have been added to the APL for the DoD. Samsung worked with several standards bodies to ensure that its devices adhere to the needs of the National Information Assurance Partnership (NIAP), through the Common Criteria for Information Technology Security Evaluation as set by the Defense Information Security Agency (DISA). In addition to completing the Common Criteria evaluation, Samsung worked with DISA to produce the Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) necessary for deployment within the DoD.
The process to certify devices requires continuous research and development from Samsung and a close working relationship with the U.S. Government to make the process as seamless as possible. Certification validating Samsung devices and allows federal departments, agencies and other highly regulated industries to use approved devices without having to modify them.
