NRL R&D contract will focus on ocean dynamics and predictive oceanography
NewsDecember 11, 2017
CHANTILLY, Va. U.S. Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) officials selected Vencore Inc. for a five-year, $23 million contract to conduct research and development (R&D) of ocean dynamics and predictive oceanography.
Under the contract, Vencore will provide scientific analysis, ocean model programming, and model validation and verification to solve the challenges of the Navy's ocean models. It will combine the research extraction and assimilation of on site and remotely sensed ocean observations to improve the accuracy of regional and global ocean models, as well as improve the environmental prediction capabilities of understanding the environmental effects on the naval battle space to meet individual mission requirements.
Vencore's research will support the next generation of Navy ocean models and contribute in building the first Earth System Predication Capability (ESPC) model, officials say.
