ARLINGTON, Va. DRS Technologies, a Leonardo Company, has been awarded an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract worth up to $22 million by the U.S. Navy for an updated communications system that will enable ship commanders to securely share real-time tactical data information.
The replacement to the existing Common Shipboard Data Terminal Set portion of the command-and-control processor system used by the Navy will enable the service to use new technologies that increase bandwidth and extend transmit-and-receive ranges of time-critical tactical warfighter data. As this technology comes on line among other nations, the U.S. Navy will be able to more effectively and efficiently communicate with its coalition partners around the world.
The updated system will give ships the ability to conduct field maintenance activities and system upgrades without returning the unit to a depot facility.
