CANBERRA, Australia. The government of Australia announced that it has bought 20 Lockheed Martin High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS), and associated hardware, for an estimated cost of $385 million.

PUNE, Maharashtra, India. The size of the global market for 5G in aerospace and defense -- estimated at $251.20 million in 2021 -- is projected to reach $4.96 billion by 2030, according to a market research report from 360i Research, "Global 5G in Aerospace & Defense Market -- Global Forecast 2022-2030."

ARLINGTON, Va. DARPA announced that it will participate in a new long-term university research collaboration with the Semiconductor Research Corporation (SRC) and a consortium of companies in the defense and commercial semiconductor industries, called the Joint University Microelectronics Program 2.0 (JUMP 2.0). 

MELVILLE, N.Y. Micross Components -- which makes microelectronics products used in the defense, aerospace, and space industries, among others -- announced it has acquired KCB Solutions (Shirley, Massachusetts), a provider of RF and microwave products.  

CARLSBAD, Calif. Radar sensing and perception company Metawave announced at the CES trade show that it won a $1.7 million Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) contract from the U.S. Army to develop long-range radar sensing and perception solutions for off-road autonomous vehicle (AGV) operation in adverse weather and complex operating conditions.

WASHINGTON, D.C. The U.S. Navy has awarded eight companies positions on a follow-on contract -- which could run as much as 10 years and $4.1 billion -- to deliver production units, software, laboratory equipment, system components, and spares for surface, shore, and submarine platforms in support of the Navy’s Consolidated Afloat Networks and Enterprise Services (CANES) program.

GROTON, Conn. General Dynamics Electric Boat has won a $5.1-billion modification of the previously awarded Columbia Integrated Product and Process Development Contract with the U.S. Navy for the Columbia class of submarines, the U.S.'s next-generation sea-based strategic deterrent.

ARLINGTON, Va. Raytheon Technologies recently demonstrated -- among other things -- FlexLink, an open-system radio technology developed by Raytheon's Collins Aerospace business unit intended to link multiple air and ground platforms that will ultimately connect defense networks and simplify U.S. Army command-and-control systems. 

HAMPTON, Va. Uncrewed-systems maker Advanced Aircraft Company (AAC) has won a contract from NASA to design and build tilt-wing prototype uncrewed aerial systems (UASs) according to NASA specifications. 

LINKOPING, Sweden. Saab has signed a contract with the Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) under which Saab will ensure the continued operability of the JAS 39 Gripen C/D fighter aircraft and install capability enhancements to the aircraft's engine, electronic warfare (EW), and radar capabilities. 

MELBOURNE, Fla. L3Harris Technologies has agreed to acquire Aerojet Rocketdyne Holdings (El Segundo, California) in an all-cash transaction valued at $4.7 billion, inclusive of net debt; the deal is expected to finalize in 2023, pending regulatory approvals.
