USAF awards $110 million contract for networked cruise missile

DALLAS. The U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has granted Lockheed Martin a $110 million, five-year/Phase 1 contract to develop and demonstrate a lower-cost, networked cruise missile that will be called Gray Wolf.
The Gray Wolf program is aimed at developing lower-cost, subsonic cruise counter-IAD missiles that use open architecture, modular design methods, and networked swarming behaviors that will enable rapid prototyping, enhanced growth capabilities, and maximized mission flexibility.
The initial phase of the Gray Wolf program -- an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity -- is anticipated to run until late 2019.
Initial demonstrations of the networked cruise missile will be from an F-16 aircraft; in addition to the F-16, the system will be designed for compatibility with F-35, F-15, F-18, B-1, B-2, and B-52 aircraft.
