NATIONAL HARBOR, Md. Textron Systems Unmanned Systems -- a business unit of Textron Inc. -- has received a $14.8 million contract to provide two additional fourth-generation common unmanned surface vehicles (CUSVs) for the U.S. Navy?s Unmanned Influence Sweep System (UISS) program.
The CUSV is a multimission unmanned surface vehicle that can be outfitted to carry multiple payloads, including side-scan sonar, mine neutralization options, nonlethal weapons, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) sensors.
The U.S. Navy intends to use these two newer CUSV systems as part of its comprehensive Mine Counter Measure Unmanned Surface Vehicle (MCM USV) mission, which the Navy says includes mine-hunting, potential mine neutralization, and mine-sweeping. The U.S. Navy’s first CUSV, which was initially designed for the UISS mission, recently completed first-step testing near Textron Systems Marine & Land Systems' facility in Louisiana and is currently undergoing additional testing off of the east coast of the U.S.
