WASHINGTON. The U.S. State Department has approved a Foreign Military Sale of tactical missiles worth more than $122 million to Germany, according to a U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) press release.
According to the DSCA information, Germany will buy up to 91 AGM-88E Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile (AARGM) Tactical Missiles and as many as eight AGM-88E AARGM Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM), for an estimated cost of $122.86 million.
Northrop Grumman, which makes the AARGM, says that the weapon is a supersonic, medium-range, air-launched tactical missile compatible with U.S. and allied strike aircraft that is intended to engage and destroy enemy air defenses and time-critical mobile targets.
The DSCA release says that the proposed sale, with the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) acting as the agent, will support the foreign policy and national security of the U.S. by helping to improve the security of Germany, a NATO ally.
