MK 48 Mod 7 torpedo components to be manufactured by SAIC

MCLEAN, Va. Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) engineers will manufacture MK 48 Mod 7 heavyweight torpedo afterbody/tailcone sections for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). If all options are exercised the contract's value will be more than $383 million.
The contract includes options for procurement of spares, production support material, engineering services, test equipment design and manufacturing, and hardware repair services. It has a 27-month base period of performance with an expected completion date of January 2020.
SAIC and Lockheed Martin have teamed up to deliver the MK 48 Mod & torpedoes to the U.S. Navy. Lockheed Martin - the manufacturer for the guidance and control systems for the MK 48 Mod 7 torpedo - will procure various afterbody/tailcone assemblies, as well as provide engineering services.
Work will be performed in Bedford, Indiana; Marion, Massachusetts; Middletown, Rhode Island; and Indianapolis, Indiana.
