Army selects BAE Systems, General Dynamics for Mobile Protected Firepower program

STERLING HEIGHTS, Mich. U.S. Army officials selected BAE Systems and General Dynamics Land Systems -- a General Dynamics business unit -- for the Section 804 Middle Tier Acquisition (MTA) Rapid Prototyping contracts under the Mobile Protected Firepower (MPF) program.
Under the Engineering, Manufacturing, and Development (EMD) phase of the contract, BAE Systems and General Dynamics Land Systems will produce 12 prototype vehicles. BAE Systems contract is valued at $376 million and General Dynamics Land Systems contract is valued at $335 million.
"The MPF will be able to neutralize enemy prepared positions and bunkers and defeat heavy machine guns and armored vehicle threats during offensive operations or when conducting defensive operations against attacking enemies," Army officials report.
Work on the EMD vehicles will take place at BAE Systems’ facilities in Aiken, South Carolina; San Jose, California; Sterling Heights, Michigan; and York, Pennsylvania. Work on the General Dynamics Land Systems contract will be performed at Land Systems locations in Sterling Heights, Michigan; Scranton, Pennsylvania, and Tallahassee, Florida, and at the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center in Lima, Ohio.
The Army will conduct a source selection evaluation to select a single best value solution for low rate initial production (LRIP) near the end of the MTA rapid prototyping phase, the Army states.
