IEE announces ARM-based MIL-STD Control Display Unit

VAN NUYS, CA. IEE, Inc. has released a rugged 10.4" TFT XGA thin-client display based on an ARM processor that can be customized for harsh environments. The 1024 x 768 resolution AMLCD Control Display Unit (CDU) includes a dual-mode backlighting system that supports reading modes from high bright (600 cd/m2) to Night Vision Imaging System (NVIS) lighting. The MIL-STD qualified CDU operates in a -46ºC to +70ºC temperature range, and is fully sealed for submersible applications.

The backlit-enhanced display is packaged in a 7.8" (H) x 11.6" (W) x 3.0" (D) lightweight aluminum housing, and is equipped with a high-resolution, five-wire resistive touchscreen bonded to the LCD with a pushbutton bezel. Specialized surface treatments and optically clear bonding aid in optimizing the display’s contrast ratio.

The 1 GHz ARM processor on the display draws under 10 W, and includes a 32 KB D-cache and 32 KB I-cache that allow simultaneous instruction and data fetching. The processor includes 512 MB of both 16-bit DDR3-800 SDRAM and 8-bit SLC NAND flash, as well as a 128 KB L2 cache. The processor runs embedded Linux and supports common software protocols, while its Ethernet interface supports the Vehicle Integration for C4ISR/EW Interoperability (VICTORY) bus architecture.

The CDU incorporates sealed circular I/O connectors, and supports composite RS-170/-343, analog VGA, and digital DVI interfaces, with the option to include up to six USB ports for connecting peripheral devices. Operator interfaces can also be integrated into a single unit.

More information on the display is available at http://www.ieeinc.com/color-lcd-display-capabilities-overview.
