AUSA 2019--WASHINGTON. General Dynamics Land Systems is set to unveil its new Stryker A1 Medium Caliber Weapon System variant at the Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting & Exposition next week (October 14-16).
The new variant features a 30-mm cannon -- that was successfully live-fired last month -- that saw five companies chosen by the U.S. Army (General Dynamics, Kollsman, Leonardo, Raytheon, and Pratt & Miller) working to integrate the increased firepower on the Stryker.
In a press release, General Dynamics officials described the new medium-caliber Stryker as "the next generation of the Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicle Dragoon (ICVD)" which is currently in use with the U.S. Army 2nd Cavalry Regiment based in Vilseck, Germany. The release continued, "It provides a solution for the army’s operational need for greater lethality in the Stryker fleet. This low-risk, proven solution is ready to meet the army’s program timelines.”
This most recent push for an upgraded Stryker platform has also seen vehicles testing directed-energy weapons systems.
