Leidos completes testing on Air Force multisensor ISR platform

RESTON, Va. Science and technology company Leidos has completed testing of the sensor systems on the Air Force's AgilePod, a multi-intelligence, open architecture, reconfigurable prototype pod designed to increase the capabilities of the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) and Air Force Special Operations communities.
According to Leidos, the company performed risk-reduction tests on eight different sensors of the AgilePod platform in five different configurations in order to demonstrate how open architectures and common mechanical and electrical systems can reconfigure sensors to address operational needs for various aircraft.
The tests were run by the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) Sensors Directorate Blue Guardian team, led by Capt. Russ Shirey. The University of Dayton Research Institute and unmanned specialists Advanced Consulting and Programatics assisted with the design, development, testing, and operation of the open architecture and systems.
Leidos modified and integrated the AgilePod platform -- built by intelligence contractor KeyW Corp. (Hanover, Maryland) in concert with the AFRL -- to prepare the platform for initial flight demonstrations; follow-on flight tests are expected to be done on the MQ-9 Reaper unmanned aerial system (UAS) in late 2017.
