Counter-small UAS strategy released by U.S. Department of Defense

WASHINGTON. The U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) approved and released a new strategy to lead and direct counter-small unmanned aircraft systems (C-sUAS) activities across the military services, which is intended to provide the framework for addressing sUAS hazards and threats in operating environments including the United States, host nations, and contingency locations.
By implementing this strategy, the DoD believes that it will successfully address the challenges posed by both hazard and threat sUAS operating within the U.S. homeland, in host nations, and in contingency locations, so that commanders in these operating environments will be equipped to protect DoD personnel, facilities, assets, and missions from both current and future sUAS threats.
The recently approved C-sUAS strategy emphasizes a new approach focused on rapid innovation, synchronization of materiel and non-materiel solutions, and relationships with allies and partners, all of which the Pentagon will work on through three lines of effort: "Ready the Force," which focuses on the development of innovative solutions using a risk-based approach to guide investment in C-sUAS capabilities and development of solutions; "Defend the Force," which emphasizes the provision of mission-ready forces able to deter and defeat sUAS threats, accomplished through the development of operational concepts and doctrine, establishment of joint training standards, and refinement of existing training content; and "Build the Team," which encourages partnership with the national security innovation base, federal and non-federal entities, allies, and partners to facilitate rapid development and deployment of effective C-sUAS solutions while maximizing interoperability.
