Air Force adds GE to $409 million thermal/power/control research contract

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio. The Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) has awarded a spot to General Electric on a potential $409 million contract aimed at research and development on thermal, power, and controls systems for aircraft engines and airframes, according to a release from the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
The DoD said that its Next Generation Thermal, Power, and Controls (NGT-PAC) program is a multi-agency, multi-industry effort that seeks to expand knowledge and understanding of future aircraft power, thermal, and controls requirements. The Air Force previously awarded the first spot under the NGT-PAC contract to Lockheed Martin in June 2017 and subsequently added Northrop Grumman and Pratt and Whitney to the indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity (ID/IQ) contract during early July. Work on the NGT-PAC contract is expected to be concluded in 2024.
