Rugged 3U mission computer subsystem released by Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions

HIGH WYCOMBE, UNITED KINGDOM. A new line of rugged VPX subsystems was announced by officials at Curtiss-Wright Controls Defense Solutions (CWCDS). The Multi-Platform Mission Computer (MPMC)-9335 3-slot system can be quickly configured for aerospace, defense, and law enforcement applications.
The computer’s small, lightweight design makes it ideal for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVS), ground vehicles and other space/weight/power (SWaP)-constrained applications.
The MPMC-9335 can handle the processing demands of radar, image, and data tasks via the latest quad-core Intel Corei7 single board computer (SBC) – the CWCDS 3U VPX VPX3-1256 -- and 240-core NVIDIA Fermi GPGPU – the 3U VPX VPX3-491. Both are housed in a rugged enclosure measuring 250 cubic inches. The rugged computer was developed by engineers at Curtiss-Wright’s Rugged Embedded Systems group located in High Wycombe, United Kingdom.
The new device can operate in temperatures as hot as 55 degrees Celsius by using baseplate cooling, requiring no fans, vehicle supplied air, liquid, or other types of demands made by the platform where it is deployed.
The MPMC-9335 also has two MilCAN offload controllers, an integrated heater to support cold-starts below -40C, and a free VPX slot for a high capacity/high speed SSD memory module. Its 28 VDC power supply unit supports DEF-STAN 61-5 Part 6, Issue 6. The new device also meets or surpasses DEF-STAN 00-35, DEF-STAN 59-411 Land Class A and DEF-STAN 00-65 Part 6 Issue 6.
Users can order the MPMC-9335 as a modified commercial off the shelf product with a modified front panel connector set, modified card set, or modified backplane wiring to meet specific needs. For more information, visit www.cwcdefense.com.
