EL SEGUNDO, Calif. Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems has won a $34.2 million contract from the U.S. Navy for engineering and test support services for the AN/ALQ-249 Next Generation Jammer (NGJ), currently in development for the Navy EA-18G Growler aircraft.

The AN/ALQ-249 --  an electronic countermeasures (ECM) electronic warfare (EW) pod used on U.S. Navy tactical aircraft -- is intended to deny, disrupt, and degrade opponents' technology, including communication tools and air-defense systems. According to Raytheon documents, the NGJ's computer-controlled multibeam receivers and mini-traveling-wave-tube amplifiers operate in both receive and transmit modes to selectively jam signals from multiple emitters.

Work under the terms of the contract will be performed in El Segundo, California, with an expected completion date of January 2025.
