U.S. Navy LCS program orders additional Sea Giraffe AMB radar

STOCKHOLM. Defense and security company Saab has received a follow-on order from General Dynamics for delivery of the Saab Sea Giraffe AMB naval radar for the U.S. Navy?s Littoral Combat Ships LCS 28 and LCS 30. The initial contract was awarded in September 2011 to the company?s U.S, subsidiary, Saab Sensis, which covered the delivery of the radar as part of the Navy?s LCS program.
Sea Giraffe AMB is a multirole, medium-range, 3-D surveillance radar system used in naval applications, which enables users to have simultaneous air and surface surveillance. Saab officials describe the Sea Giraffe AMB as suitable for demanding naval environments from the littorals to blue water operations.
Erik Smith, president and CEO of Saab Defense and Security USA, says of the system: “The Sea Giraffe AMB is currently being delivered to five classes of U.S. Navy surface ships as a part of three separate U.S. Navy programs, and this follow-on LCS contract further strengthens Saab’s position as a premier radar supplier for the U.S. Navy. The work will take place at Saab's facilities in Syracuse, New York, and Gothenburg, Sweden.
