NAVAL AIR SYSTEMS COMMAND, PATUXENT RIVER, Md. The U.S. Navy Warfare Development Command led the Netted Sensors At-Sea Experiment event as part of the Fleet Experimentation (FLEX) 2015, in which an E-2D Advanced Hawkeye and two EA-18G Growlers participated in testing designed to establish airborne networks to support machine-to-machine sensor data fusion.
A purpose of the experiment was to examine the ability to conduct “fusion forward” using only carrier air wing active and passive sensors, and a network-using prototype Tactical Targeting Network Technology radios. However, the primary goal was to passively locate and identify targets at standoff ranges without assistance from non-theater assets.
