SEAFAC signs $42 million contract to boost signature silencing program

RESTON, Va. Information technology and engineering company Leidos was recently awarded a prime contract by the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) to support the Southeast Alaska Measurement Facility (SEAFAC) signature silencing program. The single-award, cost-plus fixed-fee, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract has a five-year performance period and a total value of approximately $42 million.
As the Navy's primary acoustic engineering measurement facility in the Pacific, SEAFAC enables the Navy to determine the sources of radiated acoustic noise, to assess vulnerability, and to develop quieting measures for ships and subs. The program involves the development of silencing requirements, silencing technology, materials, equipment, and systems in order to ensure that all naval vessels have the lowest possible acoustic, radar, infrared, electro-optical, and magnetic signatures, balanced out with cost-effectiveness and compatibility with the ship’s mission.
Under the contract, Leidos will continue to provide logistics, maintenance, operations, communications, emergency services, and program management assistance services in support of SEAFAC during and between acoustic trials, including operation, maintenance, and repair of SEAFAC assets.
Work will be performed primarily at the SEAFAC facility in Ketchikan, Alaska, and the Leidos facility in Poulsbo, Washington.
