Reaper UAV to use dismount detection radar from Raytheon

FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom. Raytheon won a U.S. Air Force contract to provide four radar pods equipped with ground moving target indication and Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technology. The pods will be mounted beneath the wings of MQ-9 Reaper Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV). Raytheon officials made the announcement this week during the Farnborough Air Show.
The dismount detection radar will provide accurate data in night, day, and adverse weather for Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions. Raytheon will also will produce and deliver ground control stations for the radar.
The dismount detection radar provides improved range, resolution, and coverage capabilities enabling detection of threats such as vehicles and individuals in near real-time, night and day.
