OIS-AT announces first 3D Bird Radar at Eurosatory Paris 2014

PARIS. OIS Advanced Technology (OIS-AT) has announced at Eurosatory 2014 the first 3D Avian (Bird) Radar System that tracks altitude, position, and vector of birds in flight and on the ground.
Collisions between birds and aircraft can have catastrophic consequences and have resulted in the loss of lives and aircraft in both civil and military aviation. To assist in this matter, OIS-AT developed the 3D Avian (Bird) Radar System that meets FAA guidelines. It also comes in both fixed and transportable versions.
The 3D Avian (Bird) Radar System assists in locating, tracking, and monitoring birds that congregate on the large tracts of land at civilian and military airports, which are used as noise and safety buffers. Bird radar data can then be archived and is available for rapid recovery. Additionally, processed 3D bird data and images can be hosted on a website of the customer’s choice and are available for transmission to the airport tower or bird hazard specialist.

Maximum detection range: 11 km (6.8 mi)
Operation height: 10,000 ft
Operating temperature range: -20 °C to +55 °C
360 degrees Azimuth coverage with sector blanking option

Traditionally, 2D maritime radars were adapted for this purpose but did not meet performance expectations.
