LRAS3 sensor-to-missile technology adds situational awareness and safety

MCKINNEY, Texas. U.S. military officials look to increase situational awareness and safety on the battlefield by integrating the Long Range Acquisition Scout Surveillance System (LRAS3) with sensor-to-missile technology from Raytheon.
In a recent exercise at Camp Blanding, Fla. Raytheon Missile System engineers connected two dismounted, remotely operated sensors to a soldier’s laptop and hand controller that sent commands to a Griffin missile launcher.
During the exercise, the LRAS3 identified its target sending slew commands through the network to the Enhanced LRAS3 (eLRAS3) sensor. The connection eliminated the need for voice commands and provided the target’s exact position through a secure laptop.
"On the battlefield, this network capability will keep a soldier safe in a bunker or other protected position while conducting surveillance, identifying enemy targets and handing-off coordinates to a nearby portable weapons system," says Michelle Lohmeier, Raytheon's vice president of Land Warfare Systems.
The eLRAS3 provides 55 percent sensor weight and volume reduction and is compatible with all existing LRAS3 platforms.
