BALTIMORE. The Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) from Northrop Grumman was delivered to Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) Wallops Island in Virginia for the beginning developmental test phases. system The final and third phase of developmental test and AN/TPS-80 G/ATOR?s operational assessment will be performed in Yuma, Ariz.
Being development for the U.S. Marine Corps, G/ATOR will be the first ground-based, multirole radar to be designed for the U.S. Department of Defense.
G/ATOR has already gone through part one of the System Performance Qualification Testing as well as performance verification testing at the system and subsystem levels. The system also underwent live aircraft testing during that time.
The live target demonstrated that G/ATOR performance is consistent with requirements against target types and sizes, speeds, ranges and trajectories.
G/ATOR is designed to detect and track a variety of threats, such as cruise missiles, manned aircraft, and unmanned systems. The system is built with a scalable, open architecture that enables digital interoperability and the adding of new capabilities via software-only updates.
