G/ATOR Radar System finishes government testing

WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. Northrop Grumman's AN/TPS-80 Ground/Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR) system finished two phases of government developmental testing at the U.S. military's Surface Combat Systems Center (SCSC) and already has moved into the next phase of developmental testing to prepare for the future operational assessment with the U.S. Marine Corps.
G/ATOR is aground-based, multimission radar that will detect and track a wide range of threats. The system was designed with an open, scalable architecture that will enable digital interoperability and new capabilities to be added via software-only updates. During the latest testing, G/ATOR detected and tracked a wide variety of targets, such as fixed-wing aircraft, unmanned autonomous systems, and helicopters.
The system was tested against different aircraft types with a wide range of sizes, flight profiles,and speeds. Included in the flight profiles were simultaneously crossing, converging and diverging flight paths at a wide variety of target altitudes in a littoral clutter environment.
