F-15E Radar Modernization Program gets green light to begin LRIP 2

ST. LOUIS. The F-15E Radar Modernization Program (RMP) ? led by Boeing -- was granted approval from the Air Force to begin Low Rate Initial Production 2 (LRIP 2) of 10 APG-82(V)1 Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar systems.
Milestone C authorization for six systems was granted to Boeing under LRIP 1 last fall. The Raytheon-built AESA radar systems are scheduled to begin installation later next year.
The RMP currently is performing flight tests at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., and Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. The RMP is the latest active F-15E fleet upgrade that the Air Force has identified in its Modernization Sustainment Plan.
Raytheon’s RMP APG-82(V)1 AESA radar will replace the F-15E’s current APG-70 Mechanically Scanned Array radar. The new radar system provides enhanced radar reliability, performance, and maintainability as well as a reduction in support costs. the AESA radar should also improve detection and tracking of enemy targets once it is integrated into the F-15E weapons system.
Other RMP elements include a modified environment control system, wideband radome, and modified radio frequency tunable filters, which enable the radar and electronic warfare system to operate simultaneously.
