Army orders small, hand held targeting system from Northrop Grumman

APOPKA, FL. Northrop Grumman won an Army contract to deliver Hand Held Precision Targeting Devices (HHPTDs) to the U.S. Army. The targeting system weighs less than 5.5 pounds and enables a greater degree of precision than prior systems.
The device uses a celestial navigation module for enabling ground forces to relay targeting information to aircraft and command centers. Under this contract, Northrop Grumman officials supply the HHPTDs over a three-year period.
Northrop Grumman's experience with the Lightweight Laser Designator Rangefinder IIH enabled them to design this smaller, lighter targeting system, says Gordon Stewart, Northrop Grumman vice president and general manager for the company's laser systems business unit.
