SURREY, England. Custom U.K. battery maker Lincad recently won a new contract from Japan's Sojitz Aerospace Corporation to supply batteries for the HALO (Hostile Artillery Locator) used by the Japanese Ministry of Defense.
HALO -- which uses passive acoustic location techniques to detect the source of artillery fire at ranges of up to 30 km (18.6 miles) -- is nearly immune to countermeasures and can give the operator almost instant data on hostile firing positions. Under the terms of the contract, Lincad will supply the HALO battery, a 24V/80Ah (Amp hour) power unit based on Lincad’s lithium-ion LIPS 6.
