Army re-signs with IBM for $135 million cloud computing contract

ARMONK, N.Y. The U.S. Army's Logistics Support Activity (LOGSA) has awarded IBM a contract to continue to provide it with cloud services, software development, and cognitive computing, as it supports the technical infrastructure for one of the U.S. federal government's biggest logistics systems.
Under the terms of the 33-month, $135 million contract, IBM will continue to provide the Army with managed services and will also aid the Army in improving cybersecurity by applying the government-wide risk management framework (RMF) security controls to LOGSA's IT enterprise, incorporating cognitive computing to enhances readiness by anticipating needs, and hastening the pace of application modernization.
The renewed IBM contract also calls for the company to put systems in place that will help the Army predict vehicle maintenance failures from the more than five billion data points of onboard sensors that will be stored within this environment. The Army will also adopt Watson IoT services and a new Watson IoT Equipment Advisor solution that analyzes unstructured, structured, and sensor data directly from military assets.
