Virtual test bed to be developed for DARPA's Squad X Core technologies program

SAN DIEGO. DARPA has selected Intific, a subsidiary of Cubic Global Defense, to develop a virtual test bed for the agency’s Tactical Technology Office (TTO), which is intended to provide a realistic training environment in order to evaluate the squad-level-focused technologies that will be developed by DARPA’S Squad X Core Technologies (SXCT) program.
Intific will leverage its own background in commercial software development to develop the virtual test bed that would adapt innovations in first-person gaming engines and add defense-specific scenarios and technology generation systems. The combination of game-based, virtual, and realistic training applications of the test bed would help model real military systems for adoption and engagement with military users at the squad combat level.
The project has a potential value for Intific of an estimated $5 million over 33 months. During the first phase they will begin developing a prototype of a virtual test bed concept and, if successful, in subsequent option phases will build gamification features, increased capabilities, and scalability. In order to support combat and capability developers, the test bed will also enable a cost-efficient and effective way to test concepts and systems.

The virtual test bed is anticipated to deploy by the end of 2017 to support U.S. military forces.
