Rad-hard switching regulator with adjustable voltage range released by MS Kennedy
NewsJuly 18, 2012
MIAMI. Engineers at MS Kennedy in Liverpool, N.Y., featured their MSK 5058RH radiation-hardened (rad-hard) step-down switching regulator controller at the Nuclear Space Radiation Effects Conference (NSREC), held this week in Miami. The devices operate from 200 KHz to 2.0 MHZ and is a high efficiency .25 integrated switch.
Its key features are the wide input range of 3.6 V to 36 V and a output voltage range of .7V to 20V, says Greg Overend, vice president of sales and marketing at MS Kennedy. The device can also cut down on design time and cost, he continues. If users buy large lot, they can use different parts across their platform without having to change the part number -- they would only have to change some resistance values, Overend adds.
It can provide synchronized or fixed high frequency switching coupled with wide input and output voltage ranges that enable designers to minimize the board footprint for supporting components. The product’s shutdown circuitry enables users to reduce the input voltage supply current to less than 1uA. It comes in a hermetically-sealed package that is a 16 pin flatpak and is comes in a straight or gull wing lead form.
