Logistics-tracking contract for U.S. Army assets won by ORBCOMM

ROCHELLE PARK, N.J. Internet of Things (IoT) provider ORBCOMM has won a single-award, indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract totaling as much as $45.6 million with the U.S. Army for its Next Generation Tag (NGT) program, which will implement a common, integrated structure for logistics tracking, location, and monitoring of government assets.
Under the terms of the NGT contract -- expected to extend through December 2024 -- ORBCOMM will provide cellular, satellite, and dual-mode devices and connectivity to support the organization of commodities and assets for government users.
According to information about the contract win, ORBCOMM will apply NGT technology in applications that demand performance on a higher level than that currently available using bar code, radio frequency identification (RFID), and other commonly used automated data-storage and retrieval technologies. The NGT technology, say company officials, will be applied to assets and other objects of interest to capture, transmit, store, and process data. U.S. Army department Product Lead Automated Movement and Identification Solutions (PL AMIS) will act as program manager and requiring agency for the NGT requirements.
