GPS integration benchmark completed by Raytheon, Lockheed Martin
NewsApril 16, 2012
AURORA, Colo. Officials at Lockheed Martin and Raytheon announced that the two companies finished the first integration benchmark between the Raytheon Global Positioning System (GPS) Next Generation Operational Control System (OCX) and GPS III satellite system from Lockheed Martin.
The team exchanged satellite commands and telemetry information between the GPS III satellite simulator located in Newtown, Pa., and the OCX development site based in Aurora, Colo. The integration will ease development testing for the OCX system and enable early risk reduction testing for the ground-satellite interface in a test-like-you-fly configuration.
The GPS III program will be a cost efficient replacement for older GPS satellites and improve capability.
GPS III consists of new, more capable satellites and a flexible, secure control system that will enable new civil and military navigation signals for civilian and military users, and also will improve availability, accuracy, and resistance to jamming.
