New, small RF tuner released by DRS Technologies

ARLINGTON, Va. ̶ Officials at the Signal Solutions business of DRS Technologies a new, small tactical radio frequency tuner dubbed Polaris.
The multichannel VHF/UHF wideband tuner meets small size, weight, and power (SWaP) requirements and is designed for commercial applications such as identification and geo-location of RF interference as well as critical capabilities for emerging commercial cognitive radio networks. It can also enhances spectrum monitoring, signal intelligence technology, direction finding, and beam forming applications. Customer beta testing is currently in progress and production is scheduled to start the beginning of 2015.
The Polaris weighs less than 2.5 pounds and can fit easily in the palm of a hand while consuming minimal power in analog or digital format. Its rugged casing enables operation in harsh environments. Boasting a wide temperature range, the device is designed to withstand the rigors of high-altitude flight in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
The Polaris is the next-generation of DRS RF front ends, enhanced from its predecessor the Nanoceptor. When compared to the Nanoceptor, Polaris is a quarter of the size and has twice the frequency coverage and double the bandwidth at a lower price per channel.
