Common data link split radio system contract won by Cubic

SAN DIEGO. Cubic's business division, Cubic Mission Solutions (CMS), will provide the U.S. Navy Space and Naval Systems Warfare (SPAWAR) Systems Center Pacific command with switchable Common Data Link (CDL) split Above and Below Decks radio systems to support sustainment of the AN/USQ-167 Common Data Link System (CDLS).
The contract’s estimated value is almost $1 million and officials state the CDL split radio subsystems will be installed on U.S. Navy aircraft carriers.
The U.S. Navy requires additional simultaneous CDL link capabilities on nuclear-powered aircraft carriers to support battle group force protection and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations. The CDL split radio system will offer secure communications simultaneously to multiple aircraft and will also offer pre-flight check-out capabilities, says Mike Twyman, president of Cubic Mission Solutions.
Cubic officials say, the AN/USQ-167 CDLS is the Navy’s first CDL system to support standard CDL interfaces enabling network-centric warfare. It is a wideband data link that transmits signal and image intelligence data between aircraft reconnaissance sensors and associated ship processing systems.
