ARLINTON, Va. BAE Systems has been selected to implement a phased maintenance contract for the USS Iwo Jima (LHD 7), a Wasp-class amphibious assault ship, which is scheduled to begin August 2015 and to conclude by July 2016. The contract’s value is estimated to be $26.8 million, however, if all options are exercise it could be worth up to $32.6 million.

The contract includes structural and tank repairs as well as preservation, repairs to ventilation and auxiliary systems, temporary services, habitability upgrades, ship alterations, among other repairs.

“We look forward to welcoming Iwo Jima back to Naval Station Mayport later this summer,” says David Thomas, director of ship repair, Jacksonville and Mayport, at BAE Systems.
