U.S. Army taps BAE Systems for M88 support, sustainment

DETROIT ARSENAL, Michigan. The U.S. Army TACOM Life Cycle Management Command -- which generates and sustains mobility, technology, and logistics solutions for U.S. armed forces -- has awarded BAE Systems a contract worth up to $112 million to perform technical support and sustainment of M88 recovery vehicles over the next four years.
The M88 vehicle -- in its BAE Systems-built iterations of the M88A1 and M88A2 -- provides recovery support to troops in the field. It is the only vehicle that is able to recover the M1 Abrams tank and all of the vehicles required to maneuver with the Armored Brigade Combat Team during conflicts.
Under the Army/BAE Systems contract, services and products will be delivered to the Army, U.S. Marine Corps, and foreign military sales customers in support of their heavy (70-plus-ton) combat vehicle recovery requirements.
The contracted work will be performed by BAE Systems in San Jose, California; York, Pennsylvania; and Sterling Heights, Michigan; additional work will be done by field-service representatives stationed at military facilities across the globe.
