Rockwell Collins demos compact directional comms link

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. Rockwell Collins recently demonstrated a new, compact directional communication link for an audience of prime U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) contractors and government research laboratories.
Using technology developed with the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and its Arrays at Commercial Timescales (ACT) program, the new directional communication link can send signals 10 times farther than conventional arrays and point up to eight directions at the same time while simultaneously receiving a variety of signals. The link enables users to block out jamming and still receive the message by changing the filtering frequency as needed.
Rockwell Collins engineers believe that the communication link will prove useful within military unmanned aerial systems (UASs) or smaller helicopters and could also be installed within products for radar systems, satellite communications, and commercial UASs.
